Driving around Mumbai
Returning by boat from the Elephanta Caves we were joined by our driver at the Gateway to India and whisked about a block to a nice two level restaurant for lunch. Our guide handled the ordering and we had a terrific meal of Indian specialties.
After lunch we embarked on a driving tour around Mumbai, along the waterfront, past Victorian buildings, buildings in disrepair, the magnificent train station, the University and High Court buildings. a photo stop at Dobhi Ghat, the outdoor laundry and a visit to the Hanging Gardens. We barely scratched the surface on this very interesting city and then it was time to return to the ship, pack our bags and be ready to depart in the evening for our flight home.
Many of our travel companions were continuing on to the post cruise extension to the Taj Mahal. We have saved that for a return on a land trip to northern India, hopefully in the next couple of years.
